Once upon a time, I was a really good math student. Really, I was! Alas, it's been too many years since mine eyes have seen the inside of a Trig text book. Only too late have I realized that maintaining mastery in mathematics requires daily diligence just like staying in good physical condition. Thus, for your sake and my own, I have come up with a simple yet revolutionary formula for calculating my rates for voice work:
You pay $1.50 per second!
Not only is the math easy, it's consistent. Why should you pay as much for a :10 tag as you would for a TV:30? Never made much sense to me, either. Likewise, a twice-as-long :60 v/o is two times the work, but traditionally isn't charged that way. The per second charge applies only to the timing of the finished product, of course, not actual studio time. For example:
:15 Voice-Over = $22.50
TV:30 = $45
Radio:60 = $90
2:00 Long Form = $180
Exceptions to the $1.50 per second pricing rule include character and children's voices, which are doubled in order to account for twice the amount of blood, sweat, and tears required to do the job right...right, Molly and Erin? Adding music and/or SFX is also additional and will be quoted based on your particular project. Payment by check, money order, or PayPal is due upon receipt of your email invoice, which will be sent out at month's end.
Now writing really is a whole 'nother story! Because creating a commercial is so different from authoring an article, let's talk about what you need first; after which, I'll kindly do the same. You hereby have my solemn word that neither shall I gouge nor inflate, so as not to abuse my muse.
An advertising consultation quotation likewise requires more information.
Note: As an experienced garage saler, I know everything - every thing - including voice-over work and writing is negotiable. I'd rather work with you than starve without you!
